This book is filled with colors and lots of pictures that is appropriate for the grades pre-k and kindergarten. Each letter is associated with a word and a corresponding picture. For example G is for gas and there is a picture of a car at a gas station. I think this book is a good one to have in the classroom for children to look at and read on their own.
Uses in the Classroom:
- I would have children repeat each letter and the word after I read it. Children have practice pronouncing the letter.
- I would have children think of some other words that start with the letter. Children can start thinking about the sounds of the letter and what other words go with it. ( )

This book has not received any awards. Appropriate for preschool through third grade. It is an ABC book that can help children learn their letters. Older children would enjoy this book because of the colorful pictures. The illustration is very pop-art inspired and fun to look at.The pictures that correspond to the letters are random which makes the book even more enjoyable for children of all ages. This is an ABC book yet they incorporate sounds into it too. The words 'pop' appear on the cover and do not appear again until the end of the book after the alphabet has been completed. The use of the word 'pop' brings anticipation to the book which would hopefully give young readers the feeling that a book can do so much for you besides being read. The illustration is very important. It also lends so much to the book with different colors and textures used to decorate each of the pages.
This book can be used in the classroom to:
-teach the alphabet to young children
-letter recognition
-reinforce the alphabet and letter recognition to older children
-visual aid with 26 unique pictures
-a reference when writing and reading
-used solely for the wonderful illustration
-have older children write narratives to go along with the pictures

"ABC Pop!" is an alphabet book that includes word/picture identification. The illustrations are modeled after the elements of pop art, so they are bold, bright, and fun to look at. The only problem I found with this ABC book is that some of the pictures chosen could be "read" as something different. For instance on the "D" page, a picture of a tap dancer is presented, but many children may say "girl". Or for "R" a large baby with a little rattle is shown causing some young readers to focus on the "baby" instead of the "R" word. ( )
