I Hate Picture Books! is one of the most adorable stories I've read in a long time. Max is tired of his picture books and ready to throw them away! Why? Well, they just keep getting him in trouble. Like the time he tried to draw on the wall like that Harold kid. Or the time he ate green ham. That didn't end well! However as he slowly remembers all the books he loves, he realizes just how important they really are to him.

I loved that Timothy Young pays homage to some of the most popular picture books out there. Adults, and the young readers they share this book with, are sure find some favorites in Max's story. The best part is definitely the illustrations though. Young uses bright colors and vivid pen strokes. The pictures come to life on their own, and weave a giggle-worthy story

The humor is sweet, the message is simple, and this is the type of book that is sure to become a fast favorite! Just keep your little one away from the fridge and any green ham. Ha. Too cute! ( )

I Hate Picture Books is a fantastic story that uses some of the best loved story books of all time to remind us all that we're never too old for a great picture book. This is another book with bold illustrations thrilling, fun-filled read-aloud story from this ever-popular author/illustrator team.

I Hate Picture Books motivates your child to use their imagination, to learn and explore life. You are never too old to stop dreaming and making a fun time with your imagination. Put a spark in your child’s life with reading this story.

I was given this book from NetGalley and Schiffer Publishing. ( )

I Hate Picture Books, written and illustrated by Timothy Young (2013) tells the story of Max, who tries to do everything he can to get rid of all his picture books because he thinks they've gotten him in a lot of trouble. Readers will delight in his explanations of "trouble," while reconnecting with some favorite childhood reads.

After reading this book in the classroom, refer to the classic titles mentioned throughout the story, tallying how many students have read each one. Have students graph the results, making a connection to math. Also, this book would be great to use for a classroom or library scavenger hunt. Grades K-5. ( )

What's happens when you outgrow all of your old picture books? Well this boy is throwing them away because they are all filled with nonsense and he HATES them! Wait.. there is that one book..

This is an interesting take on what happens when kids start to think that picture books are not cool anymore. I liked that the author used books that children would easily recognize. The reasons that the boy gives in the story are similar to the comments I hear from my students on why they only read chapter books. It's a pretty cute book. I can see it being a good read aloud for classroom and library use. ( )
