Gold Fever follows Jasper, a young man who leaves his farm to search for gold. Gold Fever is written in prose, with a rhythm that stays consistent throughout the book. The book is written in short, simple, sentences and would be great for beginning readers. ( )

This book tells the story of Jasper, who leaves his family to travel to California in hopes of finding gold during the gold rush. When he arrives, it is crowded with other people hoping for the same thing. He looks in many different places before heading home empty handed. Shortly after returning home, he witnesses others heading to California and tells them, "Good luck!" ( )

"Gold Fever" is about a farmer named Jasper who wants to become a forty-niner gold miner. After a lot of hard work, he reaches the streams and mines only to realize there is no gold to be found. Jasper eventually returns home to be a farmer again and wishes the next set of forty-niners good luck on their journey. Verla Kay tells the story of the California gold rush through a cleaver rhyming scheme. I enjoyed reading this novel because it shows the reality many people faced during this time period. Not every miner was lucky enough to strike gold. ( )

Again, like the previous book kay this book gives you a brief look into the gold rush. You follow through a perspective of a farmer who travels to California in search of gold. What makes this book different from Kay’s last is that I can see that she wants kids to do further research this topic. She specifically left out huge details and information due to the reader seeing this from one mans perspective. It was a good read and any child who is interested in the topic would, in my opinion, be very pleased. ( )

Japer leaves on a farm. He leaves the farm to go find gold with the other miners. He gets to California where him and the other mines search the stream for gold. When they can't find the gold in the streams they dig though the rocks. Jasper and the other miners search and search to find no gold. He returns to his farm and wishes the next set of miners good luck as they embark on their journey to find gold. ( )
