F/SF Ted Kennedy is part of a public relations team for a large company. Currently on a '3rd level' paycheck he is invited to work on a top secret project in return for a payrise and his absolute discretion. Engineers have discovered rare minerals on one of Jupitors moons (Ganymede) but have also discovered an intelligent life form that refuses to giving mining permissions. How can they solve this issue? The answer is to employ the worlds most succesful PR company and let them concoct a story that will make mankind sympathetic to the mining corporations cause. But will Ted's conscience allow him to sacrifice another race in order to advance his career and allow the earth to replenish some much needed materials? My second book by Silverberg (the first being 'The Glass Tower') and it won't be my last. Up until now I have never been interested in Science Fiction, but this has changed my mind. Written in 1958 the novel refects the attitudes of the day and tackles subjects such as racism, exploitation and propaganda. The novel still remains as relevant today and does not seem dated at all. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Like Pohl and Kornbluth's SPACE MERCHANTS this is a novel of sophisticated government deception in the near future, an exploration of political corruption. Written in 1957 when Silverberg was 22, the novel is cynical and highly suspenseful. Silverberg, long recognized as a great science fiction writer, is a multiple award winner.
