I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Tom was hot, no doubt about it. Prophet and Tom fought like two old married men while they were often making the same point. The jump from Texas to Somalia interrupted the flow for me. It was like the author needed some filler. The sex was hot but if I wanted just sex I'd read porn. Not bad but definitely not worth more than three stars in my opinion. ( )

I was just about to leave it unfinished. But I decided to keep on when Chris's case began to become unraveled

Until that point it had seemed boring to me and with a superabundance of crossed conflicts, besides plus not perceiving in the slightest the attraction between the MCs. It's worth saying, zero sexiness.

I felt also lacks in the explanation about the Tom's background. Yes, it's clear the thing with his instincts and his partners, but of his farthest background, nothing to what to stick your theeth into. Although this is, IMO, the first part of a same book more than the first volume of a series -the ending lets it perfectly explicit-, the difficulty for to have a well-done portrait of one of the protagonists turns out to be annoying.

But bearing in mind that for my personal tastes I find ups and downs in the work of Ms. Jakes, it's that I have go-ahead intentions with the series and with the authors 'other books. She has never disappointed me at the point of the disaster and the possibility that I'll enjoy more any of her following books is always open. ( )

I was given an ARC by the author so that I could give an honest review.

There were some grammatical errors and misspellings but no more than is expected in an ARC. The two main characters are engaging and well developed. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series. The world building is fluid and allows the reader to become caught up in what is happening to the MCs physically and emotionally without being distracted by the peripheral action. There are interesting side characters that help move the story along at a good pace. This is definitely a story that has more secrets than can be uncovered in one book.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys plot twists and tortured heroes (both literally and figuratively in this case). ( )
