Summary: This book is about a girl named Pinkalicious who had to puppy sit her neighbor’s poodle named Pinky. When Pinky arrived at Pinkalicious’ house she was very shy at first. No matter what Pinkalicious did she could not get Pinky to warm up to her. So, Pinkalicious had an idea to give Pinky a bubble bath and see if she liked that, and she did! Pinkalicious accidentally knocked over her mom’s bottle of pink dye into the bathtub, and it dyed Pinky pink. Personal Reaction: I thought this book was really cute, and I could relate Pinkalicious’ situation to when I got my puppy. When I first got my puppy it took him a little while to get comfortable with me. My puppy PePe absolutely loves baths. He runs and jumps and snaps at the water while it’s running. Most of the time when I go to wash him he gets so excited that he knocks over the puppy wash bottle from the side of the tub. At the beginning of the book Pinkalicious thought that Pinky was actually a pink puppy but, she wasn’t. I thought it was really cute that Victoria Kann wrote into the story that Pinkalicious dumped the bottle of pink dye into the tub and turned Pinky Pink. Extensions: We could write about a time where they had to puppy sit for a family member or a neighbor, and how that experience went. We could write about what they think it would be like to get a new puppy, what they would name it, and all the things they would do with their new puppy. In this continuation of the Pinkalicious franchise, Pinkalicious and her family watch a friend’s dog, Pinky the poodle, for a week. However, when Pinky arrives Pinkalicious must work hard to make Pinky feel at home. This book provides existing fans of the series with a humorous addition to it’s collection, as well as serving as an entry way for new readers into the franchise. As a level one book in the I Can Read series, this book provides simple sentence structures for beginning readers and appropriate cartoon illustrations that clearly reflect the narrative on each page. The story also effectively teaches the reader about work ethic, friendship, responsibility and saying goodbye. It should be considered that this book plays into traditional gender stereotypes and should be purchased in combination with other more gender neutral beginning reader books. This book is recommended for purchase in a public library as part of an early readers collection. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
