I have not yet vanished this, but the beginning is very powerful --West has to inform a wife of her husband's murder, and she is hosting a family children's Christmas party, which she insists not be disturbed. Her husband worked in the London post office and his head was smashed as he was bicycling home for the party. He had 100 pounds ( a lot of money then) in his pocket, though his wife said he rarely carried more than a pound. ( )
