A noteworthy contribution to international relations, the text is a compilation of selected articles and essays by the distinguished writer and former President of the Dominican Republic. The articles and essays were published between 1975-93 in the magazine {Politica: Teoria y Accio n} and in the newspaper {Vanguardia del Pueblo,} both official publications of the Partido de la Liberacio n Dominicana (PLD), a major political party founded by Bosch after he separated from the Partido Revolucionario Domininicano (PRD) in 1973. The content of the articles is educational, multidisciplinary, and international. On international events, Bosch expresses his opinion and applies his analytical skills to many issues, including the French, Russian, and Cuban revolutions. Bosch also offers his point of view on the Cold War, atomic weapons, the US political and economic interference in Latin America, Africa, and Korea. Other topics include the wars in Iraq and Iran and the US war against drugs (cocaine). An article on the history of Haiti is quite interesting. Analyzing events from the Haitian Revolution and the liberation of the slaves, at the end of the 18th century, to the dictatorship of Franc ʹois Duvalier (1957-71) and his son Jean Claude Duvalier (1971-86), Bosch emphasizes the resilience and determination of the Haitian people, who, struggling against all the odds, have resisted domination and exploitation for more than two centuries. The article, published in 1986, depicts a distressing socioeconomic reality that is even more evident after the earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010. From the educational point of view, Bosch offers a clear distinction between a Latin American and a Hispanic American person. The explanation might appear simplistic, but it is useful for those who might be confused about the meaning of both terms. Thus, while expressing his opinion and making analytical remarks, Bosch also tries to inform some sectors of society about historical terminology. [VP]… (plus d'informations)
