This book is a guide to identifying dried weeds and wildflowers in winter. Books have been written which enable people to identify trees in winter, or wildflowers in summer, but, until now, there has been no way to identify the dried herbaceous plants that proliferate through the countryside, so often admired and collected by people on their winter walks. This guide identifies over 135 of the common species found in the Northeast quarter of the United States, from the Atlantic west to Minnesota, and from Canada south to Virginia. You don't need to be a specialist to enjoy and use this book, just a lover of nature in all its seasons. Many herbaceous plants remain throughout the winter as dead woody tissue, in shades of gray or brown. Sometimes they have fruits, sometimes they are mere stalks, and many of them are spectacularly beautiful. Each plant is illustrated with a full-page line drawing accompanied by a description of the plant's key characteristics. Details of the fruit, or other identifiable characteristics of some of the plants, are illustrated when helpful. The book also includes a step-by-step key to plant identification. An illustrated glossary of common plant parts and simple botanical terms further enhances the usability of this guide. - Dust jacket.… (plus d'informations)
