Being popular in the college music scene doesn't solve all your problems; at least that's what the hot musicians of indie band Luminescent Juliet discover. In this compelling novel, trouble begins when eighteen-year-old Riley, trying to regain her rhythm after throwing away her percussion scholarship to a top school, wins an audition to become the band's new drummer. This sets her on a collision course with Romeo, the band's sexy dark-haired guitarist, whose ambitions do not include performing with a girl. Luckily for Riley, all her problems seem to evaporate when she's behind the drums. Yet she can't ignore reality as the band's artistic power struggles increase -- and the dynamic between her and Romeo edges from dislike into overwhelming attraction. If the two can't find a way to be together without breaking up the band and wreaking havoc on the lives of those around them, they'll lose not just their chance to make music, but their chance for a future together.… (plus d'informations)

The writing is technically rough and is truly cringe-worthy in some places (jiggling spelled as giggling, omg whut?), but the story itself is involving (lady drummer ftw)and entertaining, so I'm not going to knock it down to two-stars even though I was itching for a red pen. I'm not really happy with the way the story ends for the lady-protagonist though because when faced with the choice between playing drums or a boyfriend, she picks the boyfriend. I hate when it's the girl always sacrificing for the sake of the relationship. And in this case, the decision to stop playing is abrupt and comes after a whole lot of talk about how playing is the only thing that really makes her happy.. It's more than fluffy nonsense but not so heavy you want to cry. Definitely readable, if you can get past the grammar carnage. ( )

Holy... This is just awesome. I don't even know what to say... *thinks hard* Hmmmm... I'll just go and enumerate why I like this book a lot.

One... MUSIC. I've been looking for a story with music in it. I'm getting hooked with books that has that kind of genre. I like music, who doesn't? I always wanted to learn to play guitar. Always bugged my bf to teach me how. But never got to learn it really well cause I'm not patient. :P

Two... Drummer... I keep on mentioning that I really like drummers. I really have a thing with drummers. Although in this case, it's a girl who played the drums and she totally ROCKED it. It makes me love drummers more. I've been having that dream where I'll buy that Drum Mania machine for my house and so I could play drums there. LOL. :P

Three... Guitarist. also known as Romeo. OMG. He's a bit dark and brooding, jerk (a bit), sweet, perfectionist, slave driver, HOT, talented and boy genius. Damn. What more could you ask for?

Overall, yes, I love it. Even the issues with Riley's mom and family. :) ( )

In the Band by Jean Haus

This is the first time I have read anything by Jean Haus and she is an amazing author, this book In the Band was fantastic. Jean writing is easy to read, the characters are great, and this is one of those books you don’t put down till you’re at the end.

In The Band is about a young woman named Riley Middleton who has to give up her dreams of going to college and playing in the school’s marching band. Her mother is struggling, her father has left for a much younger woman and Riley needs to help take care of her sister. Riley attends a local college and has a few great friends who try to help out as much as they can, but you can feel that she is struggling at times and you feel for her. Then her friend suggests Riley auditions to become a drummer in a band. Well it’s not a marching band but Riley goes and tries out. Did I mention Riley is a talented drummer and of course you may guess what happens next?

Riley starts practicing with the band, she knows that a two of her band mates are thrilled she is there, but there is that guitar player Romeo who tells her straight out he is going to do everything in his power to get her to quit. Riley can’t believe this guy is such a jerk, and decides she will do anything to prove him wrong. But even though she can’t stand him there is an attraction to him and of course knows she has to push through that and ignore the jerk. Romeo is swoon worthy and as the reader you can’t wait to see how this all plays out!

This story is about love, loss, moving on and making new dreams. Jean Haus has written a fantastic story and I cannot wait to read more of her writing.

I have rated In the Band 5 stars and recommend anyone who enjoys the new adult genre to go ahead and purchase this novel they will not be disappointed.
