This quarterback is making the greatest play of his life... Quiet bookstore owner Morgan Reed can't wait to lie on the beach on her much-needed tropical vacation, but getting tackled by a tall, green-eyed stranger playing touch football isn't exactly what she had in mind. Neither is falling for said stranger, or going along with the eccentric islander who sends them off with a mock wedding. But all's fair when it comes to vacation romance, and Morgan has plenty of time to get back to reality when she gets home. When he slams into the beautiful Morgan on the beach and sends her to the infirmary, superstar quarterback Seth Blake insists on helping her recover--if she agrees to share his bungalow with him. Seth is nothing less than smitten, and the best part is that the beauty has no idea who he is. But when he finds out that their little "wedding" was the real thing, Seth finds himself in a sticky situation. Especially when Morgan finds out the man she fell for isn't at all who he made himself out to be... Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

Morgan Reed who lives in Philadelphia running her own bookstore is finally going on vacation. Deciding to go without her long-term boyfriend Jason, she flies off to a super secret island where no phones or allowed (I wish).
Seth Blake is a NFL quarterback for the Philadelphia Titans (yes this team is a fake team, they do not exist) and is on a secluded island with the rest of his team enjoying themselves after they won the Super Bowl. Seth is feeling bored though with the constant parade of hot women throwing themselves at him and just wants to find a woman who is beautiful as she is inside as well as out (I am sorry, at this point I did snicker a lot) and sees Morgan at the airport when she arrives and falls instantly in lust even though petite Morgan with her brown skin is not the usual type of woman he beds.
So here's the thing, I applaud the author for making this interracial romance not a big thing in her world, but come on. I really wish that it had been addressed at least once. Or someone say something about it and mention how hard it would be. That said, I did feel some chemistry between Morgan and Seth, not a lot, but enough that I could see why they would be curious about each other. I will say that Seth's stalking/alpha routine was a turn off in the first few pages and luckily that mess stopped so I could go back to liking the character.
I thought the writing was hit or miss depending on what was going on. Ms. Laurel didn't do a very good job of setting up the book. I mean at 6 percent is when I found out that Morgan lived in Philadelphia. I didn't figure out until almost 12 or maybe 15 percent that she had a stepmother and 3 brothers. The fact she had a boyfriend was a throwaway line. And it didn't make any sense since the boyfriend sounded like the most sexless person ever. I've said it before, it takes a lot of skill to make novellas or short stories work, and I thought this book was missing too many elements to make it really work.
The flow was all over the place at first, it got better towards the middle and end. We just kept missing scenes that were referred to later which I hate. Case in point, Morgan apparently falls asleep with Seth's arms around her after they eat some amazing food in her bookstore. I read about it pages later when Morgan was remembering it while staring at Seth.
The setting of the island and Philadelphia were pretty generic. No place really comes alive at all, but once again this is 53 page and not a lot of room for the author to work with there.
The ending was okay, I am on the fence about wanting to read more starring these two or not. ( )
