The least of all Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child books I have read, in fact if I would have read this book first I would never have purchased & read thirteen novels by them. The previous books I have read left me with an expectation of excellence that this short story left unfulfilled. This is a short Pendergast story from when he was a kid. I often find these short stories that seem to be so popular these days lacking and real depth, they are too short, you hardly get into the story before it is over. This is an exception. This is a good story, very eerie. If you like Agent Pendergast, if you like creepy little tales, then you will love this one! While waiting for dinner with one of his childhood tutors, Pendergast reminisces about his childhood with his charge, Constance Greene. The tooth fairy tale in their neighborhood is that lost teeth must be given to the local recluse, Maurus Dufour, or he will come and get you. Thinking to teach his six-year old brother a lesson, ten-year old Aloysius tracks Diogenes to the Dufour mansion and steals the tooth back, leading to unexpected consequences. As in almost always the case in these in-between short stories, little occurs, readers are left to their imagination about what happened, especially here with Diogenes later developing into an utter psychopath. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
