Containing Roman, Jewish, gnostic, apocalyptic, Rabbinic sources and more, Barrett is a standard and reliable text with good translations and to the point introductions. These introductions give context not only to the immediate source, but also to the movements or theological/philosophical notions in question. A collection like this is mandatory for any student of the New Testament or its formation, and Barrett's work is as good and thorough as they come. Keep your eye open for newer editions than my 1989 copy. ( )
