Barry Kirwan’s novel The Eden Paradox intrigued me from the first line. Kirwan does a wonderful job of quickly building up tension and making interesting and unique characters that make the book hard to put down. The story is a complex web of secrets, sabotage, murder, and desperation. Set in a time when the people of earth are running out of options, a group of people risks their lives for the sake of humanity to travel into space to set up a base on a habitable planet. I found the large cast of characters to be interesting and well-developed, but I particularly found Micah’s character and storyline to be my favorite. The scale of the story took me a little getting used to all of the different locations, but once I was immersed in the story, I enjoyed how large the universe felt. It gave me a sense of reality to see the characters in relation to the large expanse of space the story is set in. This book is an excellent read for those that love thrilling science fiction books. I enjoyed Kirwan’s style and will definitely be reading more of his work in the future. ( )

The Eden Paradox y a SCI-FI thriller developed in a new galaxy. A dystopian world, where everything is collapsing, and humans need a new home. The third journey to a new planet that promises to be the next home for humans, but as so many factors are unknown there are other that completely made me open my eyes for what our future might be, there were so many topics that the author develops in this book that I was afraid to get lost but actually I found it to be very specific just for the reader to totally get lost in this. The Eden Paradox is a slow evolving sci-fi. Barry Kirwan writes in a way that paints a detailed scene for you to enjoy while you are reading. At first I found this to be overwhelming because the characters are so complex but the character building is necessary to enjoy the ride along with them. The Eden Paradox is written in various view points but all comes together if you give a shot. This is a thrilling sci-fi for those to enjoy that genre. ( )

This is the first book I read by the author. The Eden Paradox is a sci-fi with a very complex yet interesting storyline. The story is set in fifty years into the future. The Earth's temperature is overheated, and war-torn cities are on the verge of collapsing. The author gives the reader a vivid and detailed description of the story's locations, making us feel as if we can experience the surroundings for ourselves. It is more of old fashioned sci-fi with multiple characters. The plot is complicated, but the author uses his exceptional writing skills to weave all of the threads together into a satisfying and scary climax. There were dying worlds, potential redemption worlds, good and bad aliens, aliens secretly managing religious groups, and humans nuking these aliens after being enticed to their home planet etc. Initially, it was a little hard to connect with the story and I couldn't relate to the universe that was being created. I couldn't put the book down once I got a handle on that world. Overall an adventurous read. ( )

Isn’t it amazing at times how fiction follows real life so closely. Even in science fiction the way political leaders act and react seem to be the same as we are seeing now in some books we’ve loved over the years, but it feels a lot safer when that reality is restricted between the pages. Don’t get me wrong the story behind The Eden Paradox isn’t a situation we’ll find ourselves in anytime soon, but the way Kirwan crafts his tale makes it feel far otherwise.

I really enjoyed this book, admittedly I did find some of the more tech bits a touch hard to follow in the beginning, but once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. The characters are well developed and drive the plot along at a steady pace. Overall I found this really interesting and very entertaining. Great book. Can't wait to read more from the author. ( )
