Good-bye, Charles Lindbergh is a true story told by a man named Harold Gilpin. A farm boy Gil from Canton, Mississippi went riding his horse named Princess in a field nearby his house when he discovers a plane that has landed not that far away from him. Gil is fascinated with planes and is curious to see who the pilot of this orange colored winged plane is. He discovers that it is in fact Lindbergh. During this time period, planes were not very common. Many young children were very curious about Lindbergh at this time because he is known throughout the world for his solo flight across the Atlantic from New York to Paris. Many children wanted to be just like Lindbergh having the desire to be able to fly someday. As for Gil this was a big dream of his. Lindbergh to him was his hero. When Gil discovers in the field that it is in fact Lindbergh who was flying the plane he is fascinated and jumps for excitement. Later on that day Gil headed home to tell his mother and sister whom he had seen. His mother unfortunately cannot believe that it is actually Lindbergh, but his sister Molly is just a curious to find out. The next morning Gil and Molly set out to go and see Mr. Lindbergh. They discover in fact that it is really Lindbergh and want to help send him on his way. With the help of a man named Artie, his father and Gil they sent Mr. Lindbergh on his way. Gil’s dreams came true that day. He couldn’t believe that he had actually met his hero. He couldn’t wait to tell everyone his experience with meeting Charles Lindbergh and how he waved goodbye to him as he left. ( )
