I dove into "Thorns" quickly after finishing "Frost", first installment in Kate Avery Ellison's "Frost Chronicles". And after, quite unceremoniously, it was lost in my to-read list. I'm very happy that I picked it up again earlier this evening. I was quickly drawn back in by Lia Weaver and her extraordinary family. I am a huge fan of Ellison's gift for world building and strong female characters. She isn't an author afraid to go deeper, to portray various kinds of strength and courage. Questions from the previous story are explained further in this installment, as well as revelations that will have your head spinning at the possibilities. You might have already guessed that I just opened the next in this fantastic dystopian series, "Weaver" and look forward to unwinding the tapestry the author has woven for us. ( ) Thorns is a great followup to Frost and does not disappoint. This time around we get to know some of the other characters a little better, and new enemies are introduced. The strain on the villagers is greater than ever, and someone needs to do something. Lia and Adam take action, working as Thorns operatives, and their relationship begins to grow. The Brewer boy turns out to be a very intriguing and likable character, and Lia establishes herself a little more. Her siblings also break somewhat free from their 'children stuck at home' roles. While I could see some things coming, it was never far ahead of the narrator herself discovering them, and this novel definitely had moments that left me shocked. I can't wait to read the third in the series... just patiently waiting for it to be released on Smashwords so I can read it on iBooks. :) I don't actually know what to think about this book. Pretty good. But it's a bit boring unlike the first one, Frost. BUT, I do admit that I freakin' like Adam. I liked him from the start of this series. I knew or maybe I hoped that in the end they'll be together. I don't like Gabe that much, actually. And I am glad that it's not insta-love, for a change. And I did suspect something about THAT girl. And... and... uh, one thing I don't like in the book is that some of the characters are too stubborn for their own good. I don't like that... >. Anyway, I'm off to read the third book next week, maybe. :) Very quick read. Not as good as book 1 mainly because there are too many things happening in my eyes. Perhaps the books should have been bigger. After reading this book I picked up book 3 and soon realized by the pacing, that this could never be the last book of the series. So I checked and bingo, book 4 is coming out spring 2013. That was when I decided to pick something else to read I don't mind series but no more than 3 books. This is just to earn more money. Such small books so although there is much to like I am not going to finish book 3 and all the books yet to come. Never the less, if you do not mind long series I can recommend this cause I did enjoy the story a lot. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
