The book contained various poems pertaining to pirates, pirate adventures, pirate objects and weapons, and pirate terms. The main idea is to provide knowledge of information and facts pertaining to pirates. The word choice really captured my interest when reading because the author used pirate diction and it was very engaging. For example, the poem, “Arrr!” said, “We call our ship a man-o’ warrr!” While reading I could picture myself reading aloud in a pirate voice. The illustrations were also exceptional. They had a lot of detail and the pictures were extremely appropriate when connection to the text. The colors were also a perfect depiction of the mood. I love this book. I personally do not expect much from poetry books because it lacks the amount of content compared to story books and chapter books. This book definitely makes up for this issue with the creativity of presenting the poem, the sentence structure, and the illustrations. First, I liked how illustrations take up the majority of all of the pages with many different colors, details, and modern. For example, the "Arrr!" poems' setting takes place on a huge boat with about 20 different pirates saying 'arr' around the boat. I loved how the book included pirate terminology in a poem. For example, in "Pirate patter", the author translates pirate words like 'cat-o-nine-tails' means whip and a pirates drink is called a grog. I liked this idea because it gives a fun alternative to a boring, listed glossary. Lastly, I wanted to point out a specific poem in the book, "Me, pirate". The author surprisingly turned the book sideways, forcing the reader to turn the book sideways to read it. The main idea of this book is to inform readers about what pirates are in a fun, entertaining, and light way. This is a book of poems about the life of pirates. It is told in a humors fashion covering everything from what they wear to what they eat and the type of ship they sail. The illustrations are done as cartoon style drawing with lots of bright colors and words that can be used to help students increase their vocabulary. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
