It all started with a stolen magic spell. Throw in a demented sorceress, a teen alchemist in desperate need of a haircut, a fearless king pining for an ill-tempered witch, a demonic shadow with a penchant for turning to mist, a cunning Claurican (think leprechaun, but with better shoes), and an army of invisible knights - all looking for a pair of bickering Earthlings ... "Come back here at midnight, Ricky" Eleven-year-old Ricky watches in stunned silence as those words magically appear in the stars during a show at the Chicago Space Museum. But why can't anyone else see the message? And why must he bring Jello? His teenage sister, Allie, follows him back to the theater at midnight. They're both whisked through a door in the sky to the kingdom of Galdoren, where they quickly befriend a mischievous star and make a powerful enemy of Queen Glacidia, a one-eyed witch who rules over a land of never-ending winter. On their quest to reach a castle riddled with secrets, the siblings will encounter a magic carpet with a terrible sense of direction, a cowardly dragon, a gallant stranger in a flying wheelchair, and a candy farm with exploding Red Hots. Will that scruffy teen alchemist, Henry, be able to master his spell book in time to help? And will Ricky ever get the hang of flying, or will he forever be banging his head against the light fixtures? The Door in the Sky will transport you to a world overflowing with magic, breathless adventure, and laugh-out-loud humor. Each cliff-hanging chapter will keep you reading well past your bedtime and burning up the batteries to your book light.… (plus d'informations)

I really liked this book; it was a quick fun YA read. I was fortunate enough to win a copy on Library Thing's Member giveaways. This was truly a unique book and l adored the author’s sense of humor. I look forward to her other writings! ( )

WOW‼! I LOVE this book!! It is an amazingly written story that grips you from the moment you start reading it. Sandy Bernstein created a magical world where witches, faeries, wood sprites, goblins and more exist. I love how the author put forth so much detail so that we, the readers, can imagine this world the way it was meant to be.
The characters are truly remarkable! Characters you will fall in love with and some that you will not! Nevertheless, one thing I know is that you will be taken on an adventure of a lifetime! “The Door in the Sky” is an exceptional read and it will not let you down. This book is for all ages, not just for kids. I am a mother of three and a grandmother and I sincerely enjoyed reading this magical book.
“The Door in the Sky” will be a book that I will read with my 11yr old son and my grandson. Sandy, your book will become my family’s next “The Night Before Christmas” story. This book will be passed down through my family so they can enjoy this amazing magical adventure and fall in love with the story just as I have.
I am very excited and cannot wait for the second book to come out so that this magical adventure will continue. I highly recommend this book to all ages young and old. Thank you Sandy for your memorable story that I will always treasure. ( )

A brother and sister are whisked away to a kingdom on a far planet at the invitation of the king. They are quickly immersed in an adventure involving good and evil queens, goblins, fairies, kittens made of snow, and many other unique and challenging situations. This is an excellent fantasy for middle school kids, and will be of interest to both boys and girls. I think it would be especially good for reluctant readers. I recommend The Door in the Sky and look forward to its sequel. ( )

The Door in the Sky is a real little charmer of a book. Aimed at middle-graders, it is chock full of adventure, humour, and some wonderfully bad baddies who definitely deserve whatever comeuppance they should get at the hands of the very colourful and extremely likable good guys. And judging from all the rave reviews, this book would be the perfect antidote for the reluctant reader blues.

To be honest, though, and at the risk of sounding like an old curmudgeon, I will admit that there were some parts of the book I found just a tad too twee for my taste (the candy garden sounded so sweet, it made my teeth ache) but, then, I am way outside the intended demographic for this story. I can say, however, that, sweets aside, I quite enjoyed the rest of the story and despite my churlish objection, I have no doubt children will fall in love with everything about it and, really, that's the only thing that matters.
