In lyrical and evocative prose, the New York Times bestselling author of the Tradd Street novels takes the scattered pieces of a life and weaves them into a tale of hope...   Caroline Collier is a woman bogged down in the harsh realities of a life barely lived. Stress from her all-consuming job as an accountant has given her panic attacks, forcing her to take a leave of absence from work. And though her chances of relaxing in the presence of her overbearing, perfect mother are slim, she joins her at the family's vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina.   Though Caroline loves the serene beauty of Lake Ophelia, peace of mind is not to be found. Memories of her beloved younger brother, who died when she was seventeen, continue to haunt her, while the tension between her mother and her still simmers. Only their neighbors, the husband and daughter of one of Caroline's childhood friends, seem able to penetrate her cool reserve, giving Caroline the courage to face her biggest fears--and dive headfirst into life...… (plus d'informations)

Pieces of the Heart is another excellent book by Karen White. Once again, the underlying theme is about the mother/daughter relationship. How do define your role as a mother when your daughter is going on thirty years old? How do you define your role as daughter when you are an adult?

Caroline Collier moves in with her mother when she starts having panic attacks at work due to the stress. This is difficult for both women. Caroline and her mother have never really gotten over the death of Caroline's younger brother. Also in the picture are Drew and Jewel the husband and daughter of Caroline's childhood friend, Shelby. Shelby has died leaving Drew to raise Jewel on his own.

Quilting plays a predominant role in the story and brings together four women who are grieving over their losses.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it.

"Tension between Caroline Collier and her mother still simmers sixteen years after the death of Carolines beloved brother. Escaping to the family lake house in the North Carolina mountains becomes a turning point for both women in this novel about reconciliation, old secrets, and discovering love in the hidden places of the heart.

Without a doubt one the best books I have read - you cannot put it down! Ideal mother-daughter dynamics- bringing old hurts to the surface to face, and exposing them in new and unexpected ways. It is never too late to ask for forgiveness of others or oneself. Loved the mountains of NC setting, a place of healing, new love, finding yourself, healing, and putting the past behind. I look forward to reading all of Karen White books!

Keep the Kleenex box handy - - you will laugh and cry at the same time! " ( )
