Kat may be new in her faith, but she's embraced the more radical implications of Christianity with reckless abandon. She invited a homeless mother and her son to move into the apartment she shares with two other housemates. And she's finally found a practical way to channel her passion for healthy eating by starting a food pantry at the church. But not everyone thinks the food pantry is a good idea. When the woman she thought would be her biggest support just wants to "pray about it," Kat is forced to look deeper at her own motives. Only when she begins to look past the surface does she see people who are hungry and thirsty for more than just food and drink and realizes the deeper significance of inviting them to "come to the table."… (plus d'informations)

Come To the Table by Neta Jackson is the second book in the SouledOut Sister series. The first book of this series is Stand By Me. The books can each be read individually as stand alone stories but I would recommend reading the books in order as the first book brings more history and understanding to all that goes on in the second book.

The story is about 4 adults sharing an apartment, their lives, friendship and faith as they live life and pursue their hopes and dreams. They all come from different backgrounds and each are at various stages of their lives. The glue that binds them together is their faith, their church and their commitment to growing and living each day led by their faith.

Life throws each of them a few unexpected curve balls and it is interesting to see how they react to those challenges and grow stronger through it all.

I enjoyed reading Come To the Table. I was glad I read it during the summer when I had time to fully relax into the story and take my time reading it. It's definitely a good book to add to your Summer TBR pile!

A big thank you to Booklook Bloggers for the opportunity to review this book. My review is an honest reflection of my reading experience and my feeling about this book. ( )

A second novel from the SouledOut Sisters series that is a spin-off from the popular "Ya-Ya Prayer Group" series. The story focuses around three friends sharing a summer apartment downstairs from Ya-Ya veterans Avis and Peter Douglass. Added to their group is the Douglass' daughter and grandson, who had been estranged from them and living on the streets until she was found in an earlier story. So our apartment dwellers are Chicago Christa University students Bree, Kat and Nick, plus Rochelle and her son Conny.

The story is fun and easy to read, with budding love interests, Nick starting work as a pastoral intern at SouledOut Community Church, and Kat's drive to teach nutrition blooming into a God-led desire to feed people. As always in Jackson's work, the Christian element is well integrated into the story and very strong - it's one of the most inviting parts of her work for me. ( )
