Great author's notes, and an interesting mix of lots of illustrations by Hague, including some that are B&W which is unusual for him. His style is much sturdier than Rackham's, but these selections are mostly of the more ethereal, though sometimes nasty, 'Good Neighbors.' (Don't refer to them by the f. word; it's bad luck/ they don't like it.)

I tried, but I didn't have the patience to read it all; I just picked it up because I wanted to read Goblin Market, by Rossetti, with the help of illustrations, and this is what my library had. Probably better for scholars and completists, and artists - and *not* for little children.

This was, without question, the most beautiful book I have ever read. The fairy stories are fun, some I knew, some were new to me, but the illustrations were beyond wonderful. ( )
