BLACK BART, MEET MARK TWAIN!, November 29, 2010
By DENNIS DE ROSE "DETERMINED D" (Middletown , NY) - This review is from: Tales Mark Twain Would Have Loved to Steal (Paperback)

I met Glenn Wasson and his wife recently at a writers conference, and Glenn was gracious enough to give me a copy of this wonderful, humorous compendium of short stories, poems, drawings, and photos. I spent quite a while talking to Glenn and his wife about the book and his travels. I thoroughly enjoyed our time together.

The book is an amazing compilation of stories gathered by Glenn, over the years, dealing with Mark Twain`s kind of humorous characters. His poetry is very reminiscent of Ogden Nash, remember him? As a child, I read many of Mark Twain's stories and lot of Ogden Nash's poetry. Glenn has brought back, for me, some very pleasant childhood imagery. He's put a smile on my face and has showed me that I still have the ability to become part of a short story, even if just for a little while.

The book is divided into three sections for your reading pleasure: first, we have some stories and poems about the Gold Rush days out West, those were a lot of fun to read. Next, some lighthearted, and some touching stories about war-torn Vietnam and the war; this is a subject that I have avoided but, now, I'm glad I took the time to read some of his wonderful stories and poems. The third section gives us some lighthearted stories and poems from all over the place, what a pleasure it was to read them.

I would be remiss if I did not mention something scattered throughout, perhaps his funniest-his Ogden Nashish version of the animal alphabet and Lucifer's Lexicon.

I must mention the wonderful art and photos scattered throughout the book. It fits so well with the written word and gives the book the extra body that it needs to succeed at something memorable.
It was a pleasure reading this book and I thank Glenn and his wife for taking the time to put this together to bring a little happiness to those that may take the time to read it. Glenn and Joan, may God bless you and please continue to write more wonderful stuff. ( )
