Quite possibly one of my favorite books of all time. Also, my favorite (along with Sierra's Steeplechase and A Horse Called Wonder) in the Thoroughbred series. In one way it is my favorite and in another it is my least favorite. This is the last of the series in Samantha's POV and the introduction of the character of Cindy- quity possibly my least favorite character in the series. The reasons I do like this book so much is because of the adult tones of Samantha's relationship with Tor and the connection she has with her horses. This shows, much like some of the previous few Thoroughbred books, how mature the writing becomes with time and those who read the series when they were younger could literally grow up with it. Unfortunately, Joanna Campbell stopped writing the series herself, not long after this. Other author's tried to keep the line going and while some books were good, they were not up to the same caliber. In my opinion, this was the last of the Thoroughbred series novels worth reading. This is the book that introduces Cindy, a young runaway who Samantha finds sleeping in the newborn foal's stall. Cindy hides her feelings and her story pretty well, but she takes a strong liking to the foals, who seem to need her as much as she needs them. ( )
