The ducks are ready for their weekly sock hop, and it’s going to be a little bit wild. Socks of all varieties are worn and worn out as the ducks spend an evening with music, dancing, and, of course, snacks. The rhyming text has the same swinging rhythm as the best volumes by Dr. Seuss or Sandra Boynton. The accompanying illustrations are bold, colorful, and cheerful.

This book will pair nicely with John Nedwidek’s Ducks Don’t Wear Socks (for obvious reasons) or Boynton’s Barnyard Dance (another goofy animal dance story with a bouncy, engaging beat). ( )

This is an interesting fantasy book because kids can connect with the book because of how the socks are being described and kids will enjoy the book more because there are ducks wearing a variety of socks while they are dancing. ( )

Good rhyming book, fun animations, no real life lessons to be learned but entertaining with rhythm. ( )

I appreciate the blend of rhyme, color, and patterns that the author uses-- she allows the story of ducks wearing socks to a 'sock hop' to become a site for teaching patterns, shapes, and colors, but she also refers to the lifespan of socks. (Worn socks, stretched socks, etc).

I actually think that's a really valuable component of the book-- some kids come to school with mismatched, soiled, stained, and stretched socks. Some come with no socks. I think the singsongy storyline can be fun in an inclusive way-- when kids inevitably look at their own and each other's socks, it'll be okay that some look very different than others. ( )
