*I gave this book 4.5 stars for review*
I really loved this departure for Kasie West and really enjoyed how she crafted a science fiction lite world. I really was captured by the world builidng and also the duel timelines that was created. I really loved how this timelines really was so well done and loved seeing how a simple action can change everything. I was equally invested in both timelines and really enjoyed both BOYS as well. I found Addison to be a complelling lead and really can't wait to dive into the sequel. The highlight of this book was def the complex romances and the world building. This book is high now my on my lists of favorites by this author! ( )

So...when does book 2 come out? Maaaan if only I had Searched then I'd know how addicted I am to this book and that I have to wait so long for [b:Split Second|15792316|Split Second (Pivot Point #2)|Kasie West|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1371740981s/15792316.jpg|21514069]. Seriously I smacked my forehead in frustration.

I picked this up because it was on sale on Kindle for $1.99--it sounded just interesting enough to interest me. I remember when this first came out I was convinced this was a contemporary romance, thank god I read the synopsis!

The ability that Addie has is unique. At no point does West make it seem like having these powers--which are all mind based, nothing like flying or laser eye vision--makes the folk inside the Compound better however. Whether we're following Addie through Choice A (where she lives inside the Compound with her mom) or Choice B (where she lives outside with her dad) it becomes apparent that these 'powers' can be misused for even the best reasons.

Admittedly I liked the Choice B path better, but I think as a reader we're supposed to. The Choice A path feels off, like its all just a big game. Addie's father admits to her later on that he couldn't stand watching her grow up in such a semi-real environment and that's how Choice A feels. Because of her powers she constantly has 'what if this happened' running through her head with as vivid detail as if she had really lived those could-have-beens. To Addie there is no difference between what could happen and what did--she experiences both through her 'Search' ability, its really a matter of what does everyone else remember happening for her.

West doesn't concern herself too much with how those in the Compound got their powers, more she concerns herself with how they keep those powers in check, how they expand them and the strict rules used to keep their secrets secret. I appreciated that as a whole bunch of scientific mumbo-jumbo would have bogged down the story.

This was a pretty average book until the ending hit. And the ending was immensely well crafted and heartwrenching and ohmygoodness I can't even.

My biggest issue with this book was the premise, which was also this book's biggest boon. Addie has the power to see future outcomes of various choices she makes, but she has to live all the way through the consequences to figure out which she wants, meaning that if it's a life altering decision, she'll possibly be living multiple lives. The author didn't explore how this could affect Addie; I feel like she'd be more mature or more life weary as in a way she could live various lives, which would almost leave her immortal in a way or with way too many memories. It's a fascinating premise, but it wasn't explored at all which was disappointing to me.

I thought that, given her power, the choice her parents initially forced her to make was completely unfair, and I was surprised that she just took this and decided to look into the future.

The plot got very complicated and due to the supernatural aspects it could be challenging to figure out what exactly was happening, but the general line and eventual choice was strong and fascinating to read.

The ending was absolutely fantastic and incredibly well planned. I was really pleasantly surprised by how awfully neatly everything came together.

I did enjoy how characters in both lives appeared and how they kept their personalities, but I found it so hard to suspend my disbelief and envision how Addie's old school would just happen to be in the same football league as her new school. If her dad really wanted to escape this world, why wouldn't he go to an entirely new place?

I don't know about this one. I did enjoy it, but it left me wanting more details and more explanations. ( )
