1. Summary - This Fantasy book was about a little girl named Dorothy who lived in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry and dog Toto. One day a tornado came and while Aunt Em and Uncle Henry were safe in the cellar, Dorothy went into the house to grab her beloved dog Toto and when she went back to the house, the tornado picked up the house. The house stayed in the air so long that the little girl and the dog fell asleep. They were woken up by a thump and when they walked outside they were in a different more colorful land that the gray Kansas they were used to. No one could help her but a good witch showed up and told her if anyone could it would be Oz and that she would kiss her forehead so that no one would bring her harm on her travels there. The good witch also gave Dorothy the wicked witches shoes, for they had power. On her journey to Oz she came across a Scarecrow that wished for a brain, a tin Woodsman that didn't have a heart, and a Cowardly Lion that had no courage. She told them all that if Oz could fix her problems surely he could fix theirs so each time a new comrade tagged along to the group. They came across many trouble and obstacles along their way and each time one of the comrades came in handy to solve the problem or take charge in delegating how to fix it. By the end they reached Oz who told them he would only grant their wishes if they killed the other evil witch. The group set out to go to the witch and be rid of her but she made them her slaves and one day Dorothy got bad and through a bucket of water on the witch, which turned out to be her weakness and she melted. As the four returned to the Wizards palace he finally had to admit that he wasn't a great wizard but a common person just like Dorothy that had been stranded here by a circus balloon. Dorothy then had to find the other good witch who finally got her home. Her comrades fared well too. The Scarecrow got brains and to lord over where the Great Oz once lived, the tin Woodsman got a heart and found a village that wanted him to rule over them, and the lion found his courage and was the king of the forest.

2. Personal Reaction - I liked this book because it was so full of action and adventure and the words were so well written that you could feel what they characters were feeling, whether it was anxiety, hunger, the need to sleep, sadness, or happiness.

3. Extension Ideas -
1. I could use this in my classroom to show how each one of us is unique and bring a special attribute to the table.
2. I could use this in my classroom to expand my students vocabulary
3. I could use this in my classroom to attempted to evoke critical thinking and problem solving.
