It was even less predictable than the first as I didn't see that ending coming at all. Didn't even guess who the bad guy was, and that is just awesome. I can't wait to see how they conclude this series. I even recommended it to my 17-year-old niece, and I only recommend books that I love. *SPOILERS AHEAD* Do not read if you don't want any story spoilers. Speaking of romance, Vanessa finally kicked that Wille to the curb for good and about damn time. It says at the end that Vanessa knows who her ideal love is, and if it isn't Linnea I'm going to go crazy, two books worth is long enough for her to figure it out lol. And finally Ida. It drives me nuts that after she finally stops being such a stuck-up 'B', then she dies. I mean really? I was really hoping to see a lot more character development as well as how her relationships with the other chosen ones play out. But then again it did leave off with a bit of hope at the way end there. Been reading so many great teen books in the last 18 months, but I still think these are my favorites. Can't believe I have to wait another 8-12 months for the last one ;______; Keep getting blown away by the range and depth of emotion shown in these books. While on the surface it's a trilogy about teenage witches, the books don't shy away from issues like suicide, teen sex, bullying, and cult mentality, not to mention a dizzying array of parental issues (unemployment, separation, and adultery being only /a few/ of them). Also fantastic is the attention paid to developing the friendships (and a possible romance oh la la) between the protagonists. Imo, there aren't enough well-fleshed out female friendships in many teen books, and they now have an exacting standard to live up to. Simply amazing. Wish more American teen fiction was as stark and beautiful as this. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Evil is back in Engelsfors and threatens to engulf everyone and everything unless Minoo, Vanessa, Linnea, Anna-Karin, and Ida, the Chosen Ones, accept their strengths and trust each other unconditionally as the past becomes woven with the present, the living with the dead, and the human world with demonic forces. This book introduces new characters, magical powers and tropes (such as the best one: aka, body-switching) and it definitely lives up to the expectations one might get from the first book. The ending was upsetting, though not disappointing, and had me punish the book by putting it in the freezer for a while. ( )
