Siege: An American Tragedy takes readers inside the Capitol on January 6th, vividly recounting the MAGA horde's storming of the building, the terror and courage of those trapped within, and the selflessness of the police officers who risked their lives to save them. Siege also explores the personal histories and motives of several of the insurrectionists. While other books about the attempt to overturn the 2020 US presidential election mostly focus on defeated President Donald J. Trump and his enablers, Siege fills in the blanks. Meticulously reconstructed from exclusive interviews, congressional records and testimony, videos, court documents, FBI affidavits, transcripts, and reported text, Siege often reads like heart-pounding fiction. But it happened. Much of it, right before our eyes. And, as the final chapter demonstrates, if we fail to learn from the events that led to what was once unthinkable in the United States of America--an attempted coup d'état--there will be a next time. And we might not be so lucky.Read this gripping, moment-by-moment narrative of the event that shocked the world.… (plus d'informations)

The Midget’s House is the residence rumored to have been designed for a midget in this area of Florida where Circus people winter. Its last resident Enid was the daughter of the Circus owner, who died in the fire that burned down the main house. All the original property has been sold off to developers, the house and its grounds are all that remains of the original estate.

The unexpected inheritance of the house, makes Marisa Delano determined to bring back to its original quality, this house she had lived in for a short time as a child. As Marisa searches for a way to save the house from developers she is pulled further and further into history of the circus and its owners.
Multiple story lines: a murder mystery, a ghostly inhabitant, a lifetime tenant and a developer who must have the property. Very enjoyable. ( )

Loved this, It really is not a scary ghost story at all. It is historical fiction of Circus life similar to [b:Water for Elephants|43641|Water for Elephants|Sara Gruen|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1348373323s/43641.jpg|3441236] The writing captured me from the first chapter. I originally was using my Kindle Library lend to read free but liked it so much I bought it to have on my kindle to share with my kids. ( )

This book intrigued me because it was so unique. Unfortunately, it didn't hold my interest. I liked the midget Lucinda's journey in the circus much more interesting than Marissa's present day troubles with the old house she inherits ... which Lucinda now haunts. I did think the author did an amazing job transitioning from ghost to remembering the past to Marissa's life. Circuses are always interesting. If you are looking for an offbeat read you could give this one a try. ( )

I loved this book. Now I might have been a bit pre-disposed to enjoy it considering it’s full of things that interest me: ghosts, history and circus performers, but there is enough charm and grace in the book to entrance any reader.

The book essentially tells the story of two women, Marisa, who is starting her life over after loss, and the ghostly Lucinda, whose truth has been lost in time. Their stories interweave in a fascinating tale of mystery, ghosts, romance, and circus history until they collide in a tense conclusion.

The perspective of this novel is told from two points-of views, Marisa’s and Lucinda’s, and shifts the reader back and forth from the modern day to the early 20th century. Now this change could have easily become disjointed, but the author makes the transition seamless, and as a reader I flowed through the story effortlessly. Both Marisa and Lucinda are compelling characters -never seeming helpless or weak, even when they faced adversity- and you are naturally pulled into their captivating parallel stories.

The book is also rich in alluring backdrops of setting and description. Both worlds come to life exquisitely as the book takes you on a charismatic journey through modern Florida and the bygone era of the heydays of carnivals and circuses. This lovely detailing keeps the book’s pace flowing perfectly until the end.

The Midget’s House is an easy and enthusiastic recommend. ( )

I have an affinity for ghost stories, as well as mysteries and things about old circus days...I started this book, not expecting much...it was low cost and a first time author. Wow! What a surprise. It was like a few different books in 1, but not confusing...(I hate books where I can't keep track of people.) This was a nice mystery, and I wanted Lucinda to find peace. I wanted the house to be saved...and I couldn't wait to hear the whole story. I stayed up, lost sleep, and snuck time to finish this today. Highly recommended. ( )
