( ) Like the other book I read by the same author, this is a really good work of historical fiction. I like how it provides a different perspective on piracy in the time of Colonial America. The illustrations are vivid. However, like the other book in the series, despite being a picture book this is probably not appropriate for younger readers. Eleven year old Jake is collected by his uncle in 1716 to work as a cabin boy on a ship. The Captain is a cruel and incompetent man who often has members of the crew whipped for no great reason. When they are approached in the middle of the ocean by another ship that says that it has run out water, Jack’s world suddenly changes – the new ship’s crew are pirates – will his life be better or worse?Great illustrations and a section at the back about the history of pirates and famous pirates.p.42 about a pirate losing his leg and Jake (as Carpenter’s boy) having to help aucune critique | ajouter une critique
