She published life among the Piutes, the first autobiography written by a native woman. Like Black Elk's Vision, this was a book that made me very angry and sad. Sarah Winnemucca was amazingly influential as a liaison between Native Americans and white people, and between her tribe and the U.S. government. She fought against assimilation and the terrible abuse of her people by talking to the newspapers, visiting with government officials, and giving speeches to large audiences all over the country, and she was the first Native American woman to publish a book. She died when she was 47, and I wish I'd learned more about her in school. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
