Graelam de Moreton is the bad guy from the previous book and stays unredeemable for most of this one. He marries Kassia, thinking she's going to die and he will get her lands, but she recovers. Kassia is a doormat, and Graelam mistreats her.
The historical details are good, so I enjoyed that part of the book, but the overall plot was a bit much for me. While Graelam eventually comes around, it was a little too late for me. ( )

This story is hard to take. The hero is an arse for most of the book. He also rapes his wife (he had also raped someone in the first book), cheats on her for most of the book and generally mistrusts her. She is a wonderful heroine, although she could use more self confidence and have a little more backbone. There is no huge grovel from him although he does apologize and mend his ways. The writing is excellent. Not an easy read. ( )

Good not great. Fairly typical historical romance. ( )

Kassia ist als Figur sehr geglueckt, rundum entdecken noch die abgehaertesten maennlichen Schurken vorborgene Schutzinstinkte. Obwohl noch knapp nachvollziehbar, hatte ich schon sehr Muehe mit der Gewalt, die Graelam gegen sie anwendet.
