With powerful images and clever text, this biography offers a glimpse into the life and times of Josephine Baker, as readers follow Baker from St. Louis to New York, and then to Paris. Author’s Note. This book is a biography that can be integrated into a history lesson about the Jazz Age, which is the time period where the book takes place. It also takes place in New Orleans, New York City, and Paris. It is about Josephine Baker, who grew up poor and had big dreams of being famous. This is a very good book to read to children, because it can teach them about the Jazz Age and also how to never give up on your dreams. This book is about the famous singer/entertainer Josephine Baker. Josephine Baker grew up not having the best things or living in the best situations, but that did not stop her from doing what she loved, dancing. Despite the racism and discrimination going on around her she rose to the top and became one of the most famous entertainers. This book will be great to ready during Black History Month. It will also be useful for students learning about rhyming words and/or poems. This book would make for a great history lesson for a sensitive topic; racism and discrimination. It would be a good introduction to children who are fourth grade and above in seeing how society and the times were like way before they were born. The book goes over many hardships Josephine had to overcome in her life. But in the end, it was all worth it.
It's a rollicking tribute to a remarkable, trailblazing woman. Ages 4-8.
A tribute to the life of the iconic jazz entertainer depicts her disadvantaged youth in a segregated America, her unique performance talents, and the irrepressible sense of style that helped her overcome racial barriers. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
