I've never read any of the books in this series which is set in the year 1203. I love the period and the book was interesting although I had half the mystery figured out by the midway point in the book and I kept wondering why the protagonist, smart as he was, couldn't see it. I suspect the earlier books in this series are better and I plan to give them a try. 3 1/2 stars. According to my Kobo I read 16% of this book before I abandoned it in dismay. The author has an annoying habit of using the word 'that' in place of who, when, where, which and probably even more had I read further. And the language used is pretentious, meant to give authenticity but annoying nevertheless. Where, oh Where, has good editing gone. I am sure that it is a good medieval mystery but the writing is so annoying that I can't be bothered to find out; there are too many books out there which I can read with pleasure rather than waste my time translating archaic words and bad grammar This is a good series. A well told story but I has a sense that the story is somewhat of a placeholder. The overall flow of the series did not advance and there was not a lot of further character development. The mystery is well done, and the characters are interesting, but it looks like there is something coming and we needed an intermediate book to fill in just a few gaps to get there. I liked it, and it will be interesting to see where the series goes next. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Featuring complex, compelling characters and observant historic detail, Maureen Ash takes readers on an engaging journey through medieval England in the sixth instalment of this popular series. The consistently clever plots and intricate twists of the Templar Knight Mysteries continue to enthral; fans of her previous novels certainly won't be disappointed with the latest challenge faced by Templar Bascot De Mains. Fans of Michael Jecks, Margaret Frazer and Ellis Peters will find A Deadly Penance to be a compelling historical mystery. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

A young man having an affair w/ the furrier's wife is lured up to the battlements of the castle where he is shot clean through w/ the Castellan's crossbow. Templar Knight Bascot is called upon to discover the murder & solve the mystery behind the young man's death.
An interesting tale of medieval times, adultery, deceit, intrigue, & revenge.
I knocked it down 1 * because in too many places it was long, drawn-out, & boring ( )
