Not normally my cup of tea, this one was pretty good---especially since it included a travel narrative. I received it as a birthday gift from a friend so I figured I'd better give it a shot. I like to call this kind of book a "90s guy" book---similar to those by Mitch Albom and Nicholas Sparks, these types of romantic/contemplative books written by guys always remind me of my Dad in the 90s when he was dating his then fiance. They're just a little too far on the contrived and sappy spectrum to be something I'd pick up on my own, but they're quick reads that I don't mind giving some attention to when they're offered to me. This book sits right in the middle of a series. I was interested enough to Google enough spoilers to get the general gist of the series...but probably won't read anymore by him. ( )

This is the third installment of The Walk series. This book was not as good as the first two in the series. It ended up being more of a travelogue of the places Alan had visited and passed through. It felt more like reading a travel guide than a novel. It was also a little bit heavy handed in the spirituality department. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like the ending was forced and trying to sound profound and just ended sounding superficial. It was like reading a Hallmark card. I am glad I read it and would certainly recommend the series. ( )

Alan continues his walk through S. Dakota and Iowa and Missouri. He encounters Pamela and the Holocaust survivor, and learns the importance of forgiveness in making his life who. A strange dizziness overtakes him and he awakens once again in a hospital. ( )

The third book in "The Walk" series and I think I enjoyed this one the most. Allan realizes that forgiveness and grace are just as important to the giver as the one that receives it. The first person he meets is McHale's mother who wants forgiveness for abandoning her daughter. He also meets a Polish, Jewish man who survived the death camps of WWII. He teaches Allan that hate for someone gives them a place and power in your life. Are they worth it. A real learning experience. Love this series. ( )

Book four of the series. Alan meets up with some interesting people, including his deceased wife's mother, Pamela. It has started him thinking about what forgiveness is and the meaning of grace. He spent a lot of time in Mo. especially Hannibal. He has started having dizzy spells and has twice ended up in the hospital. He passed out along the highway and has ended up again int he hospital. Book four is called A STEP OF FAITH. ( )
