WISTING: THE MAJOR TV SHOW NOW ON BBC FOUR
Winner of the Norwegian Bookseller's Prize

Ove Bakkerud, newly separated and extremely disillusioned, is looking forward to a final quiet weekend at his summer home before closing for winter but, when the tourists leave, less welcome visitors arrive. Bakkerud's cottage is ransacked by burglars and next door he discovers the body of a man who has been beaten to death. Police Inspector William Wisting has witnessed grotesque murders before, but the desperation he sees in this latest murder is something new. Against his wishes, his daughter Line decides to stay in one of the summer cottages at the mouth of the fjord. Wisting's unease does not diminish when they discover several more corpses on the deserted archipelago. Meanwhile, dead birds are dropping from the sky.

Chief Inspector William Wisting once again has to deal with many loose ends that he believes somehow belong together. But he still has to convince others of this, which is sometimes difficult as other police departments are involved in solving a drug case with some of his suspects. To make matters worse, his daughter Line is also dragged into the whole mess and, as a father, he fears the worst.
Several summer houses by the sea have been broken into and all the electronic equipment has been stolen. A dead body was found by a neighbour. Instead of being taken to the coroner's office, the body mysteriously disappears. Soon two more dead bodies are found.
Line moves into one of the summer houses because she wants her boyfriend to leave her flat and find something of his own. But this boyfriend is also a business partner of a well-known drug dealer.
Wisting's investigation shuttles between Norway and Lithuania. Every time he senses a breakthrough, a different loose end begins to give him a headache.
The story is written in a very exciting way and only at the very end are all the loose ends tied up. ( )

It all started with burglaries in remote summer cottages in Norway. One resulted in a murder. It expanded to include drug smuggling from Eastern Europe. What I liked about this book, the 5th or so book in the William Wising series was a two page intro introducing the main characters and what has happened in the past. So, if you start in the middle of the book, you're not lost.

The book was good, not great. I liked the characters although I kept getting mixed up on names. The plot was satisfying. I don't know why I'm only giving it a 3 other than I wasn't truly invested in the book, I guess.

There are better Nordic Noir books to sink your teeth into. ( )

Den klart sämsta i serien hittills. Välskrivet men standard. ( )

One too many plot doinks for me, although likeable characters. E.g how can you be scared to death and leave your car doors unlocked? ( )

This book woven a few plots together with twist and turn. William Wisting remains sturdy anchor throughout. ( )
