Gibbering Gnome Presents a Tale of Epic FantasyTelling a wicked good tale is a talent, but making it sound believable is a gift. Lily and Jasper Winter still talk about their uncle's forbidden bedtime tales of the Moon Realm. But they don't believe, as they once did, that his tales are true, or that his fantastic paintings are from places he's actually been . . . that would be childish. Now Uncle Ebb is missing. His mansion is full of distractions. A Tesla generator thrums in the basement. Electrimals drift along coral-reef walls. A hidden room conceals a mysterious moon coin that transports Lily to the real Moon Realm. But the moons are in trouble: the lion-like Rinn of Barreth are under siege, and the magic-wielding lunamancers of Dain are beset by the very dragons they once loved. And the formerly beautiful moon Darwyth is controlled by the villainous Wrengfoul, whose creeping shadow threatens to eclipse all the Moon Realm.Featuring twenty-two stunning full-color illustrations by Carolyn Arcabascio. One of the best Young Adult novels since "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," this adventure takes the reader to a remarkably complicated yet consistently constructed world where only children can help save the realm. Lily is the first book's protagonist, with the promise of her older brother Jasper to follow in her stead in the second book. An adult reading this tale may feel frustrated by the lack of answers, but for a young adult reader the mysteries and urgency add to the magic. Welcome to worlds where help comes in the form of the little understood but greatly needed human child. ( )

Uncle Ebb always told bedtime tales to Jasper and Lily Winter. But now he's disappeared and Lily has picked up a necklace belonging to him. She opens it and spins the dial...... She finds herself on one of the Moons, Uncle Ebb has told them about. Lily didn't think they were real. Now she knows differently. But how is she to return home.

Richard Due's writing is beautiful and draws the reader into each of the Moons that Lily visits. All the characters seem so human and real, even though the Rinn are cats. Each place is described and you feel that you are riding along with Lily, and you see the moons rise, and the evil that creeps across the lands.

This is a story worth reading and also reading to young kids. I would recommend this book to all who like fantasy stories. ( )

I received this book through LibraryThing Member Givewaway for an honest review and I'm glad I did because it was a wonderful magical adventure! Jasper and Lily didn't realize that their Uncle Ebb's bedtime stories were about a magical realm until years later when they find themselves transported to the Moon Realm, a fantastical place filled with strange and magical creatures. The author's world-building is rich and imaginative and I think most readers will be swept away into the adventure and the illustrations were lovely. Looking forward to reading the next book! ( )

I received an electronic copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This book is very detailed. Perhaps even exquisitely detailed. However, it suffers from a weakness as a result, which is that it's very difficult to get through. I don't need to know the name and species and description of every bird to follow a story, but here, the author seems convinced that all of it is necessary. Well, it's certainly gorgeous, but I couldn't finish it. Too dense with detail.

The story's about a girl who accidentally gets into her uncle's fairy tale world, and finds that they're fighting a war while she needs to get home. ( )

This book was a great book that I think all ages would enjoy. It is a story about two children who thought that the bedtime stories that they were told as children were just fairy tales. As they progress through the story, we learn that there is much more that their grandfather told them then they realize, and it wasn't all just in his imagination. While this may be a bit long for some readers, it is packed with adventures, and every time you turn around, the story has progressed to another realm with a new cast of characters, I found myself addicted to see where they would end up next!
