Kara Gillian is in seriously deep trouble. She's used to summoning supernatural creatures from the demon realm to our world, but now she's the one who's been summoned. Kara is the prisoner of the demonic lord Mzatal, but quickly discovers that she's far more than a mere hostage. But waiting for rescue has never been her style, and Kara has no intention of being a pawn in someone else's game. Yet intrigue and treachery are running rampant, and Kara is hard pressed to keep her wits about her. Her abilities as a homicide detective are put to the test as she seeks the truth about FBI Agent Ryan Kristoff; Rhyzkahl, the demon lord she is sworn to; and her own history in the demon realm. She's going to need all the strength and tenacity she's developed as a cop and a summoner, or the hell she endures may well last forever. Touch of the Demon is the exciting fifth installment of the Kara Gillian series.… (plus d'informations)

Revisiting so I can read [b:Fury of the Demon|15833153|Fury of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #6)|Diana Rowland|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1380849197s/15833153.jpg|21569387] and not be 100% lost. Although this has backfired (more than) slightly, since I don't really recall what happened at the end of [b:Sins of the Demon|11019938|Sins of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #4)|Diana Rowland|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1325917393s/11019938.jpg|15233548]. I was so looking forward to this book its one of those addictive bookseries like the Darkfever series by [a:Moning Karen Mari|4566038|Moning Karen Mari|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66-251a730d696018971ef4a443cdeaae05.jpg] or The Disillusionist series by [a:Carolyn Crane|3084517|Carolyn Crane|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1256259430p2/3084517.jpg].

The more you read the more questions you get and you have to read on to get the bottom of these secrets. Its engrossing. Like watching LOST.

But this...was kind of a let down to say the least.

If you read the previous book you remember that it ended on quite the cliffhanger with Kara being transported into the demon realm and taken captive by another demon lord.

But what does he want with her and what are these vivid memories that she starts experiencing that she knows is not her own. They seem to belong to a now dead summoner called Elinor that had some part in causing major destruction in the demon realm.

As more questions gets answered we get more unanswered ones.

Kara sunk in my esteem quite a lot in this book being torn between two men can be understood in a way but really Kara? Harping on about your love for Ryan while casually having sex with Rhyzkahl...AND then getting it on with yet another guy (Mzatal)and it should be mentioned then she doesnt consider Ryan at all. I mean I found him boring and such but...

There has to be some standards or at least human decency.

And she wasnt the only one who did something wrong. There is some betrayal in this book think along the lines of what happens to the heroine at the end of [b:Darkfever|112750|Darkfever (Fever, #1)|Karen Marie Moning|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320533920s/112750.jpg|108558] and you will be mentally prepared for it.

It was also in other ways a very weak book.

I suddenly got this awful realization, the plot was was starting to remind me a lot of [b:Storm Born|2754510|Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1)|Richelle Mead|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327900947s/2754510.jpg|3159815] and Kara was all over the place with wise cracking and such.Annoying much?

I mean she was always a bit like that...but it was offset by some gentler moments. This book lacked that. It was shallow replacing the intensity of the previous book with cheap shock value.

Makes me wonder if I should go to the effort of reading on into this series...well I wont wait with baited breath for the next book at least.

Mostly putting in my two cents worth that this book both ties the series together beautifully and was *seriously* beyond what I was expecting in terms of, "Holy crap, ow," While I read it.

Read it when you have spoons for major consent breach stuff. It's worth the read - and awesome - but holy crap, ow. ( )

Okay, now I'm just reading this series to see how stupid Kara can be. ( )

OMG I'm actually surprised just how much epic fantasy is packed into this novel.

I mean, seriously, we're meant to expect police procedural in Louisiana with a taste or two of demon summoning, but instead, we get a full-blown epic in the Demon world (that seems rather nice, to be honest,) and tons of leveling up for Kara.

Is this what people think when the series goes sideways? Give me more!

We're leaving Earth for a brand new sidewise world! Heck yeah!

The best part is when Kara learns that her paramour can't be trusted. Big surprise? Maybe not. But it definitely makes for some excellent reading. Maybe even reboot-Kara worthy. This is some perfection when it comes to backstory and build when it comes to getting Over-Powered. :)

Maybe I'm just a sucker for all this stuff.

Correction. I AM a sucker for level-ups. No doubt about it.

So now we have tragic backstory and reason for training in the Demon Realm. Awesome. Totally Awesome. :) :)

Gotta love tragic knives and all. :) Climbing towers, making floating 2D sigils? Getting BEAST at least in terms of Earth Summoner terminology? I DON'T CARE. I LOVE IT.

Honestly, this is my favorite Kara novel. It has tons of new locations, new characters, new level-ups, and new motivations that aren't Earth-based. Do I really want something so far-flung? Yeah, perhaps I do, especially after having such a solid grounding already. :)
