On the night Kayla Cutler disappears while out on a pizza delivery, she wasn't supposed to be working. Gabie and Kayla had switched shifts because Kayla wanted Friday off. Someone else didn't know about this arrangement and he was expecting the girl in the Mini Cooper, aka Gabie. When Kayla shows up he decides to stick to the plan and grab his opportunity. Now Kayla is missing and Drew and Gabie feel horribly guilty. Drew because he's the one who took the fake pizza order and sent Kayla to her kidnapper, and Gabie because she knows it was supposed to be her that was taken instead.

As the investigation moves forward, it becomes clear that people believe Kayla is dead. Gabie seems to be the only one who can feel that she's not. With Drew helping her, Gabie struggles with guilt, grief, fear, and anger... and she never gives up her belief that Kayla is still out there somewhere.

My Thoughts:
This book is 100% what it was supposed to be: A thrilling, suspenseful, entertaining, mystery that kept me wanting to read and read and read. I love a book that makes me want to stay up way later than I want to because I just HAVE to know what's going to happen.

The Night She Disappeared is told in multiple perspectives with other cool things thrown in like 911 calls, newspaper articles, and police reports. I felt like those extras gave the book something to make it stand out from the average mystery. I liked the whole vibe of the book and how it really explored the emotions that people go through when something traumatic happens around them. It can bring you closer to people, or push you apart. I liked how Drew and Gabie didn't talk much before this whole thing happened, but were bonded together because they both felt survivors guilt. Drew was the perfect person for Gabie to lean on. He was definitely a favorite for me in this book.

I enjoyed that this was a true YA Contemporary Thriller. There wasn't a supernatural twist, it was just a kidnapping and how the people around it dealt with a tragedy. I wish there were more books like this in YA because they're easy to read, but also exciting.

Overall: A super-fast paced, thrilling mystery that you can totally read in one sitting!! Unputdownable, suspenseful, and nail-biting inducing at times. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a true YA Contemporary Mystery/Thriller.

Kayla disappears while delivering pizzas. She had switched shifts with Gabie, and Gabie thinks it should have been her. As the days go slowly on, police searches and interviews lead them to one suspect. But Gabie and another co-worker, Drew, are deeply involved in the case as well, and they aren’t convinced the police are right. The novel covers a period of two weeks, and with each passing day, tension build and the suspense grows. The story is told from the viewpoint of different characters, and also included are inserts of police reports, news articles, interviews, and more, all of which add to the horror of the situation. This is a well-written YA novel, plenty thrilling without being over-the-top too scary. ( )

This is a great quick read that I think any 9th grader and above would enjoy. This story has very real subject matter that involves teenagers, high schoolers, and I would not want to introduce such subject matter to students under 9th grade. I think they would focus to much on the language and reality of drug use among high school students. But to not take away from the story, it was different on how the perspective of one event is seen through several different character's eyes. It reminded me of "EVERY SOUL A STAR" in its depiction of different first person story telling. Great ending, but it had as much "gusto" as the slow interrogation scenes.3/5 ( )

While working at Petes pizza Drew answers a call from a stranger, calling in for 3 large meat lovers pizzas and asks if the girl who drives the mini is on shift. Drew doesnt answer and just tells Kayla to take the order. (kayla was switching shfts with the girl who drives the mini. Kayla takes the order and never comes back. At closing hours Drew calls the police in worry that something happened. The next morning, the cops find Kayla car empty on the side of the road. The next day at work Drew finds out that the police found a rock with blood on it. Gabie ( the one who dirves the mini) hears the new that the fate of the kidnapping was meant for her. Gabie works with Drew to find Kayla before it is too late. It turns out that the man who wanted to kidnap Gabie has her license plate number, and then when Drew is driving her car, he hits the car and gets out and says "Are you okay miss?" At that point Drew knows that this person is the one who wanted Gabie. As soon as Drew realizes that. he follows the car to where the mans house is, parking his car a little ways down. He then sneaks up on the house to see Kayla through the window. After watching and mapping out the house, Drew goes in to find Kayla screaming at gunpoint. While the kidnappers head is turned Drew snatches the gun from the man.

Overall, i think that this book was really good and will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I recommend reading this book to anyone who likes mysteries or thriller. The book doesn't take long to read and is very interesting. It had me on the edge of my seat and having no idea what the final possible outcome could be.What made this book unlike all the other mystery books ive read is that it includes newpaper sections, 911 phone calls, and more. What if the wrong girl is kidnapped? That's the question that April Henry poses to the reader in her latest crime thriller for teens. The plot centers around a group of high school seniors who work at the local pizza joint. Their lives are messed up when a John Doe places a pizza delivery order hoping to kidnap a girl who switched days with another girl. Teens will enjoy the story but there is nothing outstanding in the writing. ( )
