As always Janette OKs writes another book I will read for years. The internal struggles they had about finding the answers that led to their eternal peace was so beautifully written. I really felt like it was a great representation ( )

The story follows Katherine and Donnigan, who have agreed to a mail-order marriage, as they anticipate meeting and their subsequent married life.

As is typical of "inspirational" fiction, the main characters had only minor flaws, and their problems were quickly and easily overcome.

The last third of the book focuses on Donnigan's desire to learn who God is and how to please Him. This seemed like a separate book, or an extra-long epilogue. It's also the part that makes this a "Christian" read, I guess.

Multiple characters mention a "right" to get married or talk of "deserving" marriage. I don't believe that marriage is something a person can "deserve," but the way it was written leads me to think that the author does believe it.

Pretty standard fluff that's quick to get through. But honestly, it just wasn't interesting enough to recommend, even as a fluffy read. ( )

"Well-known and loved storyteller Janet Oke presents a beautifully told tale in her best tradition. With both anticipation and anxiety, Donnigan, a man surviving on the Western frontier alone, and Kathleen, a young girl thousands of miles away with limited prospects of finding a husband and stirrings of adventure in her heart, are at last united to begin their lives together."

She didn't even know his name ... but she was about to become his bride. Standing on the ship's deck, Kathleen O'Malley watches the land she has called home slip from her view. At his prairie farm, Donnigan Harrison anxiously awaits his bride's arrival.

A Bride for Donnigan- Women of the West, book 7

If you're new to Christian fiction, or Christian historical fiction, I suggest you begin by reading this book.
It's well-written, clean romance,
the storyline is solid, and Janette Oke writes in a way that will keep you interested
throughout the book. A Bride for Donnigan is really a good
book.
I wish more Christian fiction/Christian historical fiction writers of today would imitate Janette Oke, and put more substance and depth into their
books, and less frivolous, page-filling blether. Please authors, put aside your pride, and read this book, and learn how
to write in a dignified manner that is worthy of respect, and above all, worthy to be called Christian.
Janette Oke takes you on two wonderful journeys that eventually join, beginning one in London and one in America. One is the
story of Kathleen, a neglected stepdaughter, who finally decides to leave her family in London, by agreeing to be a
mail-order bride for an unknown groom in America. Another is the kind farmer Donnigan, who is quite lonely and in need
of a feminine influence in his life, to make his house a home. He pays for the ticket for his unknown mail-order bride to arrive
by passenger ship in Boston harbor.
Donnigan is the utmost gentleman, and Kathleen tries to be the wife she thinks he needs, but without actually communicating that
to him directly. They work things out, and their marriage knits together through many trials and situations. Donnigan begins a search
for Jesus, and through his bible, he finds out how to guide his family and be a Godly husband.
