Good use is made of Jansson's Moomin characters to tell a story for very young children. Visually, they have avoided the fate of Winnie the Pooh and Curious George: no disneyfication, no prettification, they look as if they came directly from Tove Jansson's pen. I imagine someone researching the entire Moomin comic-strip oeuvre to find appropriate drawings. The situations are very much in-character: Snufkin hides in a tent, Moominpappa behind a newspaper, and so on. Little My is eventually found in a most outrageous place, very appropriate for the feisty little person. I was somewhat disappointed with the construction of the book. The pages are glossy and sturdy, but they are paper and for a book that encourages small children to manipulate the pages and cardboard flaps, I would have preferred the pages to be board-book cardboard, or at least as stiff and durable as the flaps. 'Coming, Little My, ready or not!' Meet Moomintroll's family and friends in this intriguing lift-the-flap game of hide-and-seek. Moomintroll cannot find Little My anywhere - and his friends don't seem to know where she is either. Nor does Moominmamma . . . but what is Moominpappa keeping under his hat? The first in a new range of appealing novelty books for the very young using Tove Jansson's original characters and artwork, published to coincide with the Moomins' 65th anniversary celebrations.
