The first Bink & Gollie book won a lot of awards (ALA, Publisher’s Weekly, NYT) and was generally adored by readers old and young. Now B&G are back for three more stories. All three stories are set at the state fair. First, Bink tries to win the world’s largest donut at the Whack a Duck stand. Then Gollie bravely enters an amateur talent show. Finally, the girls visit a fortune teller. The stories are all sweet and funny and, though the main characters are female, this is definitely a book boys will enjoy alongside girls.

Though we don’t keep Bink & Gollie in the Easy Reader section at the library, these stories are great for beginning readers because a lot of the vocabulary is repeated and the story relies heavily on the pictures, like a graphic novel.

Like Elephant & Piggie, I put B&G on my list of future classic duos.

I am officially a Bink & Gollie addict. Two for One is simply hilarious. I love how it catches the guilelessness of children without being sappy. The humor is both subtle and over-the-top. The more sophisticated the reader, the funnier the book becomes. My favorite thing about Bink & Gollie are their sometimes slightly age inappropriate insightful conversations. Below Bink and Gollie are deciding on their last event at state fair.

"What's next" said Bink....
"Destiny," said Gollie.
"Destiny?" said Bink. "Is it a ride?"
"In a manner of speaking," said Gollie.

OMG! What 8 year old talks like that? I love it. ( )

"Gollie, do you think we should go to the state fair?"

Bink and Gollie do go to the state fair, where Bink attempts to "whack a duck" and win a giant donut, but ends up whacking the whack-a-duck man instead; Gollie enters an amateur talent show and freezes onstage, but recites a poem to Bink in a barn afterward; and Bink and Gollie visit Madame Prunely to learn their destinies.

It is a good book for children to learn friendship. The settings in the book is like in the real word, which makes it become a realistic fiction. it talks about two good friends have adventures in the state fair. The illustrations are real cute and funny. It can be used in social study class and reading class for young kids. ( )

Summary: This is a chapter book about two good friends, Bink and Gollie and their adventure at the state fair. In the first chapter, Bink plays a game called What a Duck to try to win the wold's biggest donut. In the end, Bink is unable to win the big donut so she ends up buying multiple bags of little donuts. In the second chapter, Gollie attended a talent show. However, she was too shy to show her talent in front of all the audience, and then she left the stage. Bink encouraged her to show her talent in front of Bink and the cows, and Gollie did a good job. In the third chapter, Bink and Gollie go see a fortune teller who tells them that they will be friends in the future.
Genre: contemporary realistic fiction. Because the setting is similar to our real life and could real happened in our life.
Age app: 4th grade to middle
