It is interesting that the author was born of missionary parents, lived in the Congo since she was 16yo and is now Jewish. I think her own story may be more fascinating than these books. After a tornado has destroyed the old house and barn at her bed and breakfast Magdalena has rebuilt the Penn-Dutch Inn and her latest guests are a group of WWII vets and their wives. Magdalena learns that her community has been the host of a war criminal as well as a WWII spy during this book.
This one also has Susannah getting married to the local police chief who also happens to be her sister's arch-nemesis in 15 yards of blue silk fabric. (
