Grandma and grandchild are half a world apart, but she reminds him that they still see the same moon.

A sweet/bittersweet tale that will personally touch many of us who live far away from our families. ( )

This is a beautifully illustrated book, depicting the emotions of a child and grandmother who live in different parts of the world, and long to be together more often. As always, this author writes with a depth of feeling and emotions that are heartfelt. She begins with the differences in the weather wherein she is experiencing snow, in Africa, her grandson is livling where the sun is hot. She writes of memories of reading books to him, and now he reads books, mainly about the moon.

Where she lives, there is ice skating on the pond of frozen ice. And if he were there with her, she would hold his hand and skate with him. Where he is, there is swimming on a lake and sand castles are made with the hot sand. He has sweet dogs and so does she.

It is obvious she loves her grandson and longs to keep the connection tied tight. This is a beautiful book highly recommended to any grand parent and grand child.

This book was about a grandmother reaching out to her grandchild that lives far away. As the title says, the main idea is that no matter how far they are from one another, they share the same moon. When reading the book, you get certain information from the text but when you attach the picture to the text the book starts to connect and make sense. At the end, the grandmother and grandchild are reunited, sending a positive message for any child experiencing this. I would read this to a third grade class because it is a type of poem and it's written with a certain style. ( )

I chose this book because I was interested in reading more Newbery Award Winner and Caldecott Honor books. This is a beautiful story about a grandmother who is missing her grandchild because they live in two different parts of the world. By looking at the illustration it seems that the grandchild lives in Africa. it is clear to see why the author Patricia Maclachlan won the Newbery Award, her story teaches readers that no matter where you are in the world, if you are separated from someone you love by distance, together you still look at the same moon. The illustrator, Bryan Collier, was a Caldecott Honor recipient. His illustrations show how beautiful different cultures can be. ( )

"Your Moon, My Moon" is a beautiful story. It is told by a grandmother who lives for away from her grandson. She talks about all the memories from when they were together like when her dogs followed him all around, when she read him book and sang him songs. She explains how their homes are so different. It is cold and snowy where she lives and hot where he lives. Although their homes are so different they still share the same moon and they are connected. The illustrations beautifully tell the story by showing every detail she explains like the snowy ice skating rink, the hot white sand beach, the freight train book she read to him as child. This is a wonderful book for children that have family that live far away, to show that it may seem very far but they are still connected at heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story and illustrations are absolutely magnificent. I will definitely be adding this book to my at home library. ( )
