Good story, great illustrations based upon a Chumash Indian legend ; a perfect gift for a seven year old that loves to read. ( ) This story is of the beautiful Earth goddess Hutash creates her people of the Chumash Indian tribe on the island of Limuw. As her people begin to prosper the island of Limuw becomes too crowded and the Chumash people must split to other land. The journey across Hutash’s rainbow bridge to new land becomes dangerous and to save some of her people they are turned into dolphins. I had never read this story before but the illustration truly made this tale come to life for me. This book has an amazing story of new life and caring for the earth and the people that live there. In the classroom this could be a great opportunity for student to learn about Indian culture and myths without bringing up religion.
