Druss est un guerrier redoutable, mais aussi un héros qui se bat pour la justice, sans compromis. Pour sauver un ami, il va se retrouver impliqué dans une guerre pour la défense du tombeau sacré des Nadirs. C'est un bon récit de fantasy, assez classique mais efficace. Seul regret, sa forme en flashback puisque le livre est l'histoire racontée par Druss longtemps après. Cette figure de style rend la fin assez frustrante. ( )

De beproeving van de bijlvechter wordt met veel liefde opgedragen aan de Hotzen de Baars: aan Big Oz die door de valleien van dode computers trekt en romans terugvindt die in de Leegte verdwaald zijn - een man van wiens tijd, energie en genialiteit iedereen royaal gebruik mag maken - maar blijf wel van zijn droge kaakjes af! Aan Young Oz die me duidelijk maakte dat Civilization me boven mijn pet ging. Aan zijn zuster Claire vanwege het lekkers van de barbecue dat ze niet op de grond liet vallen.
