Het lezen van deze webstrip op mijn kwartslag gedraaide beeldscherm bevalt steeds beter. Er zijn ook andere websites die er beter van worden, misschien omdat ze wel meer voor telefoons zijn gemaakt. Maar er zijn nog heel wat websites die toch meer op een breedbeeldscherm afgestemd zijn dus het is soms wel een gedraai van jawelst.

Dit tiende deel is van een zelfde hoge kwaliteit als alle voorgaande delen en ik ga er vanuit dat deze ook nooit zal verminderen.

Soms verbaast het me wel hoe lang een bepaalde toestand blijft bestaan en dat ondanks de vele acties die worden gepleegd door ik-weet-niet-hoeveel personages er toch uiteindelijk weinig gebeurt. Zo is de dodelijke ziekte die Agatha, Gilgamesh Wulfenbach en Tarvek Sturmvoraus (die namen blijf ik grappig vinden) onder de leden hebben minstens de helft van het boek het hoofdonderwerp, dat is dus zo'n zestig pagina's. En dan heb ik het nog niet eens over hoe lang ze al in het kasteel zijn dat Agatha als de ware Heterodyne onder controle probeert te krijgen.

Ik weet nog in de tijd dat ik live meelas met de strip, dat betekende op maandag, woensdag en vrijdag een nieuwe pagina, ik ook vaak vond dat iets wel heel lang duurde. Dan heeft het in een keer achter elkaar lezen van een verhaal wel een groot voordeel.

Wat mij dit keer nog eens extra opviel waren de grappige details die in het kasteel verborgen zitten zoals een tekstje op enkele traptreden die vragen of je wel alle experimenten hebt uitgedaan, het grote beest hebt gevoederd, de held hebt verslagen en geglunderd hebt. Ik ben slecht in goed kijken en er de tijd voor nemen om de schitterende tekeningen met aandacht te bestuderen. Maar ik heb gemerkt als ik meer de rust neem, er nog veel meer te genieten valt dan het grote verhaal.

Op naar deel 11 want het gevecht met het kasteel en de anderen is zeker nog niet ten einde. ( )

This is the tenth book in the Girl Genius series. I thought this book was a bit weaker than the last couple books in the series, but it was still a great read and highly entertaining. This whole series has been a wonderful blend of magic, steampunk, and humor.

Agatha, Gil, and Tarvek still have a strange malady that they are trying to cure. During the process of building the machine that will cure them, they discover a strange Guardian creature in the bowels of the Castle that is set on causing serious trouble. Meanwhile outside in the city things are falling apart since the shutdown of Castle Heterodyne. No one realized just how connected the castle was to the city.

Not as much happens in this book as in previous books, I also didn’t think it was quite as outrageously funny. Still, that being said, there are some interesting plot developments and I really continue to enjoy the characters.

The illustration continues to be brightly coloring and is easy to follow, it fits the tone of the story really well. It was fun to have Tarvek, Gil and Agatha in the story together...those three are hilarious together and play off of each other really well.

Overall this continues to be a highly entertaining graphic novel series. I love all the steampunk and magic elements. I continue to enjoy the humor and brightly colored illustrations. I would definitely recommend this whole graphic novel series to anyone, teen and older, who enjoys both a good laugh and steampunky goodness. ( )

I haven't actually finished this, but I've simply lost interest; despite having read the two previous volumes in the series (this is the tenth) I can't remember why I was supposed to care about any of the characters, and I'm going to do something else with my time. ( )

This is the 10th graphic novel chronicling the life of Agatha Heterodyne. The entire story is available online for free as a web comic, and periodically they bind them into another book for us to buy. I find the story and the artwork to be great.

We catch up with Agatha and crew in the bowls of Castle Heterodyne trying to cure Tarvek and Agatha from a freaky disease. It's one fiasco after another, Murphy's law in full effect. They make a lot of discoveries and find out a lot that needs to be done to have the Castle repaired before they are attacked. Miss Pinky comes back and makes a nuisance of herself again. Basically everyone is chasing their tales and a LOT happens in this book. READ IT. It's worth it! ( )

Keeps the 'potboiler' in 'steampunk': rattles right along with almost all of the many plot-threads woven into a skein, but none of them tied off. ( )
