The concept to this math book was to learn addition by using dominos. Dominos has 2 ends, the top may have 5 dots and the bottom may have 4 dots, so you would add 5+4. That would be on the left page. Then on the right page, since the total was 9, you would have to find a domino with the total of 9 spots, so that involved counting again. This book didn't really contain layers of meaning, but it did enable natural connections to math and helped provide opportunities for the reader to use math for authentic purposes. It didn't really have a sense of wonder, but it could engage the reader. ( ) Summary: This book is about showing kids that there is more to math than just adding together plain numbers or text. It also shows the different ways to get the same number, i.e. 5+1, 2+4, 3+3. Personal Reaction: I thought this book could be useful for introducing addition to children in a fun and unusual way. I remember reading this book when I was younger and I loved it. Classroom Extensions: 1. Read this book to children as a way of introducing addition. 2. After reading this book, have children draw or use real dominoes to show math problems with their answers. Summary: This s a nonfiction book that uses dominos to teach addition. The book demonstrates adding the dots from each side of the domino to find the total. Personal Response: I like the idea of using dominos to teach addition. The illustrations were very colorful. I like that it gives a few examples for each number. Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. Can be read during a lesson on addition. 2. I would bring dominos to class for my students to practice wtih. This book is great to read to young students learning addition facts up to twelve. By counting the dots on the dominos and representing all the different combinations to find a sum of a number, it helps the students visualize the problem. It is an informational picture book that contains questions to engage students in the read-aloud. http://www.quickteachingtips.com/mathematics/domino-addition/ This website is helpful to teachers because it gives quick and short games/lessons to use with the Domino Addition book. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
