bikeracer4487: This is the 1st book in the Newsflesh trilogy that Blackout is the 3rd and final book of. If you stumbled across this book I HIGHLY recommend starting at Feed and then moving on to Deadline.

I had read the October Daye books before I met Seanan, but I was hesitant to read the Mira Grant books because I like her so much. Maybe you have to be me to understand why. I'm so glad I did. I'm not usually a fan of horror, but this didn't read as scary for me.

The text read as real to me. Sometimes repetitive, but in ways that make sense for people and bloggers. It was an interesting captivating read that left me happy and wary. Now I'm off to read the shorter fiction in the universe because I'm a completist. ( )

Well, it's over - at least this Trilogy. I'll be checking out the other short stories in the universe cause it's just a cool universe. Some things were a bit convenient but I just had a ton of fun with the whole series.

I was disappointed that the narrators changed in Blackout. I really liked the folks that did Deadline, here a lot of accents changed (Maggie is just completely different) and Sean was just..different. After him being the main voice in the last book, and me having just heard it not too long ago, it was a big change. ( )

I still enjoyed the action, fast pacing, and humorous character interactions. Something was missing for me in the overall wrap-up, though, and I can't quite put my finger on it. It felt incomplete, just ending before I really felt it should have been over. The fix-it plotline introduced for events in the first book seemed almost forced and therefore detracted from the plot/character depth and cohesion. ( )

A solid ending to a solid series. I think that I liked it more than Deadline, but less than Feed, owing entirely to one thing: George.

Yup, she's back. Literally the last thing that happens in Deadline gets fleshed out (heh) in Blackout as we alternate once again between Shaun's and Georgia's viewpoints. It's fairly obvious what's happened (and a neat extension of what we already know about the zombie virus), but that doesn't mean I was still rooting for her nevertheless.

That being said, her being back complicates Shaun's situation somewhat. He's not any less crazy and as odd as it sounds, his underlings are still just dealing with it. What's more, it's made explicit here that Georgia and Shaun have been sleeping together. I get it, and they're adopted rather than blood siblings, but it still feels a little off.

Other than that, it's a solid conclusion to the series. We finally learn who the big bads are--although it's not a huge twist. We get a few more complications with the zombie virus with several nice showdowns across the country. The ending is less 'they all lived happily ever after' and more 'we may just survive this', but given the events of the stories, that's good enough for me. At least it's not a cliffhanger like Deadline...

Overall, great book, great series. Not quite on my list of favorites ever, but I'm glad I read it. ( )

Not quite so exciting or surprising as the first two. Stretched my ability to suspend disbelief a bit too much. The ending was a bit dull for me as well. Still fun overall. ( )

My story ended where so many stories have ended since the Rising: with a man -- in this case, my adoptive brother and best friend, Shaun, -- holding a gun to the base of my skull as the virus in my blood betrayed me, transforming me from a thinking human being into something better suited to a horror movie.
