No Such Thing As Ghosts was my introduction to Danny Dragonbreath and his friends. The book is a fabulous story about Halloween and a haunted house. The way the story is told, a nicely flowing blend of text, artwork, and comic-book elements is brilliant. Danny and his friends Wendell and Christiana are very engaging and interesting characters. I particularly enjoyed the skeptical, knowledgeable Christiana. I recently encountered author (and artist) Ursula Vernon when I read ( and loved) The Wizard's Guide To Defensive Baking, written under her nom de plume T. Kingfisher. And now I've discovered and loved this other aspect of her creativity. Wonderful. Ursula Vernon has become a new favorite author and I will definitely be seeking out the other volumes in Danny Dragonbreath's adventures. Indeed, I will be seeking out anything Vernon has written, under any name. This book is a delight. ( ) Really cute Halloween story about Danny Dragonbreath and his friends. I appreciated both the light educational aspect (there wasn't a ton, but there was some mention of cultural ghost/Halloween traditions) and the fact that another girl character is introduced, this time without the "eeew, cooties" aspect. This would be a perfect Halloween read for kids who want to read a spooky story, but are as easily scared as I was at that age. A proper Halloween story - Danny, Wendell, and Christiana go trick-or-treating, and through the intervention of Big Eddy find a real haunted house. Which isn't nearly as cool as Danny expected one would be...more gross. And exhausting. And candy-stealing! But they end up doing pretty well overall (especially where they get Big Eddy and his minions back). Urusla Vernon is one of my personal idols - she's a zoologist, an artist and a jolly fine writer. This is the fifth book in her Dragonbreath series, and it's a real lark. Like its predecessors, it is a mixture of story, illustrations and has a little comic book thrown in as well. highly amusing, Ursula never writes down to her audience, never patronises, just entertains (and educates a little as well). These books are absolutely hilarious, and the illustrations truly delightful. I highly recommend them to anyone with boys 6-10, particularly reluctant readers. Danny Dragonbreath and his faithful sidekick Wendell are at it again! It"s Halloween and Danny, Wendell and their friend Christiana accept a dare to go into a haunted house. Little do they know that it actually IS haunted--by the ghost of a young lizard who died before getting to go trick-or-treating. The combination of graphic and regular novel styles continues to be a delight, and there's humor for all ages in the Dragonbreath books. Delightful--if a bit MORE farfetched than some of the other Dragonbreath books. Oh, and I missed the bus to anywhere.... aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Not only must Danny and Wendell trick-or-treat with skeptical classmate Christiana, school bully Big Eddy dares them to enter a haunted house on Halloween night, where they may have to sacrifice their candy to a ghost. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
