I believe that someday I could become a great ruler of Egypt, better than my sisters can dream of being, but I must be careful not to let them know how I feel. I do not want them to see me as a rival for the throne and a threat to their plans.

Cleopatra Confesses by Carolyn Meyer

This was such a fun book!

Written from Cleopatra‘s perspective, starting from early days and then going on as she develops into a woman who will one day be queen of Egypt, I found this book to be a great read.

I found the writing in the story really enjoyable. I am a big reader of literature having to do with Cleopatra and I found this to be one of the better books out there. There was one thing I wish were different. That is I wish the book was longer because it does not go into her days with Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony. This is actually a compliment to the writer. What I am saying is I wanted more. I just found the book too short but other than that it was an exhilarating and fun read.

All the characters came alive As did the beauty of Egypt. This is a must read for all lovers of his Historical fiction and in particular historical royal figures. ( )

This was bad, but it wasn't all that interesting either. It took forever for Cleo to get to around 16ish and even being to rule. I just lost interest really quickly and skimmed the rest of the novel. I find Cleopatra interesting, but this novel just didn't connect with me. ( )

Still debating wether this book deserves 3 or 4 stars.

It was very entertaining, but as someone who has read about Cleopatra's life this book was kind of disappointed. My main problem with it was the fact that it focused too much on the early years of her life, in which nothing incredibly exciting or important (compared to the rest of her life) happened, only to skip at the end of the book to her death. This book is like a good way to read history. If your into history but fiction books bore you, then this book is just right for you. It tells you what happen to Cleopatra and her life from age 10 till she dies a queen. Although, it very unique it it's ways that it makes you want to read it. Carolyn Meyer is a brilliant writer. ( )

I love historical fiction, so I really enjoyed this book. It's a pretty straightforward story covering Cleopatra's younger years. Now, I cannot speak for the authenticity of it, but it seemed plausible to me. I could be completely wrong. However, it's clear the author did her research. It gave the book a very real feel. The details and look into everyday Egyptian life in that time period were so interesting.

I found that young Cleopatra came off a bit too precocious to me. That didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book though. If was a fun read, and it can definitely get people more interested in history. It holds your attention through a well-known story. I would recommend this book for sure.
